Baltic Amber Facts

  • Organic material a hardened, fossilized pine tree resin is at least tens of thousands of years old, . May contain whole insects, small animals, plant tissue or air bubbles.
  • Most often found honey, cognac or "egg yolk" color.
  • Stores static electricity.
  • When rubbed, the gem attracts lint.
  • Is the lightest weight & softest of all gems (a diamond is hardest), not mineral.
  • Amber is warm against the skin, silky feel. In contrast, minerals and glass are heavier and feel cool or even cold to the touch.
  • True amber is light enough to float in salt water, like soap would in a bathtub.
